Advanced Riso For Photography Workshop

US$250.00

Dates: Tuesday and Thursday, March 24 and March 26
Time:
6:00–9:00 PM
Location:
Posy Press (Goat Farm Arts Center)

Join Dyanne Horgan from Ripe Ink Press for a hands-on introduction to Risograph printing for photography, a unique process known for vibrant inks, layered colors, and subtle imperfections that give each print its character. During this two-day workshop, you’ll learn different digital techniques to design for Riso including building layers for riso, color separating full color images, and faux-CMYK printing.

Participants will bring their own digital and film photographs, print a two to four-color design of their own and leave with a small edition of finished prints. Throughout the session you’ll experiment with test prints before producing your final edition on 30 sheets of premium French Paper.

The first day will be a guided, participatory experience where you’ll learn how the machine works while taking part in the printing process. Together Dyanne will walk you through preparing artwork, separating layers, and choosing ink combinations from Posy Press’s collection of 13 Risograph inks while seeing how the machine is set up and run.

The second day will be a printing day, where we make final prints of our prepared artwork.

You’re welcome to bring analog or digital photographs to work with during the class. Prior color separation or printmaking experience is recommended but not required. We recommend participants take our Intro to Riso class. A laptop is required as well as access to Photoshop or Spectrolite.

This workshop is ideal for anyone curious about Risograph printing for photographers, whether you take photos on your IPhone or on a Canon.

Requirements:

  • Laptop (Mac or PC)

  • Photoshop and Illustrator access is preferred but not required. There are free alternatives that we can use if you don’t have access to Adobe; these include Spectrolite or Canva + Affinity.

About Dyanne Horgan:

Dyanne Horgan is a printmaker and graphic designer based in Atlanta, GA. While printmaking was the focus of her studies, Dyanne also has a profound interest in analog photography. Though the two mediums are very different, she found a parallel between the process-oriented, often chemical-based forms of image-making. After graduating, she worked as a graphic designer, delving further into digital image creation. Seeking a way to merge all three practices, Dyanne acquired a Risograph. In 2023, she founded Ripe Ink Press, a Risograph studio that offers custom prints, commissions, and graphic design services.
