12:00 – 5:00pm ET at Posy Press (Goat Farm)
Join us at Posy Press for a hands-on introduction to Risograph printing for mini-zines, a unique process known for vibrant inks, layered colors, and subtle imperfections that give each print its character. During this three-hour workshop, you’ll learn how the Risograph works, how colors interact when printed in layers, how to prepare simple artwork for printing, and how to fold a 8.5 x 11 in. piece of paper into a mini-zine!
Participants will create and print a two-color design of their own and leave with a small edition of finished prints. Throughout the session you’ll experiment with test prints before producing your final edition of 30 mini-zines.
This is a guided, participatory experience where you’ll learn how the machine works while taking part in the printing process. Together we’ll walk through preparing artwork, preparing a layout for your zine, separating layers, and choosing ink combinations from Posy Press’s collection of 13 Risograph inks while seeing how the machine is set up and run.
You’re welcome to bring simple artwork, drawings, photographs, or digital images to work with during the class. Digital files can be printed in the studio and scanned on the Risograph during the session. You’re also welcome to create something simple during the workshop using shared art materials, including pencils, markers, and watercolors. Prior color separation or printmaking experience is not required.
No prior experience is needed. This workshop is ideal for designers, illustrators, artists, and anyone curious about Risograph printing, and it serves as the foundational class for future Riso workshops at Posy Press.
